CNN’s Osama Bomb!

Patrícia Campos Mello, who writes the Subliminazis blog for the Estado de S. Paulo, knows what a metaplasm is, and blogs this example from Wolf Blitzer Infotainment Central.
CNN gaffes, passing at Internet speed from MediaBistro to the Av. Paulista, are a popular “most e-mailed” found-humor item throughout the hemisphere, it seems, and across the North-South divide.
CNN meant “Osama,” not “Obama,” obviously. That’s Aiman al-Zawahiri. Who is still alive and at liberty why, by the way? Half a trillion a year for defense buys us … impunity for mad bombers who wipe out New Yorkers? And the poetry of Donald Rumsfeld? I am not feeling freaking defended.
Apparently nobody at the Atlanta center copy-edits those captions and screencrawls.
Of course, I make those mistakes myself, even though I am a copy editor by trade.
It is hard to edit yourself. Publishing is a team sport. The more eyeballs, the better. Yada yada yada.
But then again, writing here, I am just some blogger. It’s to be expected. You get what you pay for.
What’s CNN’s excuse?
